Our resident Blue gives her view on all things Stamford Bridge…The sight of Chelsea’s record goalscorer Frank Lampard scoring for Man City against his old team hurt more than certain Blues fans would care to admit. It was hard to begrudge Lampard another moment of glory as he slotted the ball past Thibaut Courtois with familiar ease, after 13 years of loyal service to our club. That equaliser signalled two-points dropped and the end of Chelsea’s Premier League winning streak, but also the gulf in form between Lampard and fellow 36-year-old Didier Drogba. Both Blues legends have made limited appearances this season, but Lampard has netted already while Drogba is yet to create a convincing chance. Now the third choice striker, behind the prolific Diego Costa and summer signing Loic Remy, it was perhaps a surprise to see Drogba handed his first start following his return in Chelsea’s Champions League Group G opener against Schalke.A flurry of missed chances and laboured movement followed and, although the club were careful not to publicly criticise Drogba’s performance, it was worrying given Costa’s injuries and Remy’s lack of recent football at this level. The Ivorian drew another blank in his late Capital One Cup cameo on Wednesday, while once again Lampard started for City and went on to score a brace as his side beat Sheffield Wednesday 7-0.With Lampard clearly showing few signs of age, it poses a question: why, even though Cesc Fabregas arrived, was he allowed to leave? And how did Drogba convince Jose Mourinho of his value to the team? The former Galatasaray forward is unquestionably a Chelsea legend. His 157 Blues goals between 2004 and 2012 is some feat, so it would be horrible to witness the decline of Chelsea’s Champions League-winning striker firsthand. Two years abroad at Shanghai Shenhua and in Turkey certainly have not helped Drogba’s aging process and neither has an ankle injury. The veteran has asked fans for patience as he returns to full fitness after the Schalke game, but how much patience can you have at a top club like Chelsea? The demands of elite football are relentless and after waiting three years in vain for £50m Fernando Torres to turn up, the Spaniard was finally offloaded this summer. Mourinho could do without waiting for another attacker to shine, as he aims for Premier League and Champions League glory. While making allowances doe Drogba could be detrimental to the team, his reputation as a brilliant, pivotal figure in our noughties success perhaps justifies giving him time to come good.Drogba may yet become an important asset to Mourinho once again, but right now the truth seems difficult to accept: Drogba might not be good enough for Chelsea any more, but Lampard still is. And given the chance, I’d have Super Frank back in a heartbeat.Chelsea fans, do you agree? Should Didier Drogba be given time to find his feet? Comment below… Frank Lampard proves he is still capable of playing at the highest level 1
Submitted by Sal CordovaDr John C. Sanford, an elite scientist and inventor of 40 years at Cornell, an Ivy League School, made American history by inventing the Gene Gun in the mid 1980’s. This invention has been used for a highly substantial proportion of all the genetically modified organisms (GMOs) on planet Earth, allowing food genes to be intelligently re-designed. As a result, millions of individuals have been able to avoid starvation. His invention also increased our ability to study genomes and thus further scientific understanding. For these accomplishments, one of his inventions became part of the collection of the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.Early in his scientific career, Sanford accepted evolution, but after becoming a Christian, and after reading Michael Behe’s book Darwin’s Black Box, Sanford began a painful journey of rejecting all his former understanding and acceptance of evolution and realizing he had wasted so much of his life believing something untrue. He tells part of his story in the opening pages of his bookGenetic Entropy.Dr Sanford granted a rare 30 minute Skype interview with the Ratio Christi television program, “Truth Matters” (Ratio Christi is a campus organization seeking to provide college students with avenues to hear rational arguments for the gospel of Christ). The episode was entitled: “Darwin Was An Ideological Figurehead, Not A Scientist (Ep. 11)”. It articulates many of the reasons he eventually rejected Darwinian evolution. Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Abhay Chautala on Tuesday set aside speculations about coming together of his party and its offshoot outfit – the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) in Haryana. On Monday, Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala’s father Ajay Chautala met his estranged younger brother, Mr. Abhay Chautala, causing speculations among party ranks about a truce between both the leaders of the “Chautala family”.Asked about the meeting and the INLD’s future political prospects, Mr. Abhay Chautala told The Hindu over telephone that “…the chapter is closed. When they have gone away and we are separate now, then it’s over.” A party source said “nothing much should be read into the meeting as it was a customary one among the family members.”Deepavali greetingsThe meeting took place at the family’s farmhouse in Teja Khera in Sirsa district and Deepavali greetings were exchanged. “The two brothers had a cordial conversation,” said the source. The INLD, led by former Chief Minister O.P. Chautala saw a split in 2018 after a bitter power struggle between Ajay Chautala, who is serving a 10-year jail sentence in a teacher recruitment scam, and Mr. Abhay Chautala, who was the leader of the Opposition in the Assembly and had been running the party since 2013. Amid the family feud, Mr. Ajay Chautala and Mr. Dushyant Chautala floated the JJP.In the recent Assembly polls, the JJP made an impressive debut by securing 10 seats, and struck a deal with the BJP to form a coalition government. The INLD saw a near washout from the political arena by winning just one seat.Ahead of Mr. Dushyant Chautala’s oath as Deputy Chief Minister last week, Mr. Ajay Chautala was released from the Tihar jail on a two-week furlough. The BJP emerged as the single largest party by winning 40 seats in the recent polls but fell short of six seats to form a government on its own. The majority mark is 46. The BJP and the JJP then decided to form an alliance government.
