New-look CPL for 2016

first_imgKINGSTON (CMC): The salary cap of franchises has been raised for next year’s Hero Caribbean Premier League, in what is one of several changes to the region’s premier Twenty20 tournament. Organisers announced yesterday the salary cap had been placed at US$780,000, up from $600, 000 from last year. Also, franchises will now be able to sign one ‘marquee’ player as a free agent before next February’s player draft, but will be allowed only three retained players instead of four. The limit on overseas players has increased to five from four players while players who live in the franchise territory has been reduced from four to two. Squad sizes have also been increased by one to 17. Tom Moody, CPL’s International Director of Cricket, said the changes were designed to further improve the quality of the competition. “Our aim each year is to make CPL even bigger and better so that we can attract the best T20 players in the world and make it as entertaining as possible for the fans,” the Australian said. “Over the past few months, we’ve worked alongside the franchise owners to make sure that the 2016 player draft is open and competitive so that the buzz and excitement of CPL will start building from January right through to the tournament launch in the summer.” He added: “From early January 2016, we’ll start to reveal the franchise marquee players and the retained players so that by the time the draft comes around in February fans will already have plenty to talk about.” CPL involves six franchises:- Barbados Tridents, Guyana Amazon Warriors, Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel, Jamaica Tallawahs, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and St Lucia Zouks – vying for the title of regional T20 champions. Red Steel are defending champions after beating Tridents in last year’s final in Port of Spain. The tournament is heading into its fourth year.last_img read more

China Pressures Google to Remove Automatic Redirect to Hong Kong

first_imgRelated Posts chris cameron Why Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… And by “link” Google really means “if you click anywhere on the site you will taken to Google Hong Kong,” because that’s precisely what the landing page does. At least that’s how it behaves when I visit it from the U.S., but perhaps it gives users a choice when visiting from within China. Google believes this will appease the Chinese officials, and will secure the renewal of its ICP license.“As a company we aspire to make information available to users everywhere, including China. It’s why we have worked so hard to keep Google.cn alive, as well as to continue our research and development work in China,” said David Drummond, SVP of Corporate Development and Chief Legal Officer for Google in a blog post late Tuesday evening. “This new approach is consistent with our commitment not to self censor and, we believe, with local law. We are therefore hopeful that our license will be renewed on this basis so we can continue to offer our Chinese users services via Google.cn.”While this may technically be in line with Chinese law by not automatically redirecting users to Google Hong Kong, the government officials may not be pleased with linking to the Hong Kong site. If the site does in fact give Chinese users an option to use one or the other, it may be hard to fault them from simply linking to the other site. We should find out more soon since Google’s license is up for renewal on June 30th, but it would seem that for the time being, the ball is now in China’s court. Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting The ongoing game of cat and mouse between China and Google continued today as the Internet search behemoth announced it is making some changes in an attempt to please the Chinese government. The dust up began in January of this year when Google refused to censor any results on Google.cn after accusing China of orchestrating a cyber attack on its servers. Threatened with losing its license to serve content, Google eventually decided to redirect users to its Honk Kong homepage – a work-around which until today had gone unchecked by the Chinese government. With the first half of the year coming to a close, Google’s Internet Content Provider (ICP) license in China is up for renewal, and government officials have made it clear that the automatic redirection to Google Hong Kong is no longer acceptable. Google’s solution? Instead of redirecting users directly from Google.cn to Google.com.hk, the Chinese homepage will now simply link to its Hong Kong counterpart, which allows users to search free of censorship. Google Maps Shoves Apple Maps To The Edge Of The World

first_imgTags:#Google Our long national nightmare is over: Google Maps for iOS has been released in Apple’s iTunes Store, bringing back Google’s robust and much superior map data to iOS users. There are no download stats for Google Maps yet, but it has already been rated nearly 8,000 times since debuted on the iTunes Store late Wednesday. There are reports that some would-be downloaders can’t, possibly due to high demand. Many reviews gush, and indeed, the app seems to return all the features that made Apple’s native Maps app great — when Apple Maps used Google’s free geo-searching service.  Apple ditched the Google data for its own when it released iOS 6 in September, and people have been finding themselves surrounded by hungry dingoes ever since. The iOS version of Maps separated Apple from rival Google as intended, but the gamble failed spectacularly. In the wake of the new Apple Maps release, Apple’s CEO made a public apology and, just recently, the company fired Maps manager Richard Williamson. The new Google Maps app features turn-by-turn directions, Street View and transit directions. But there are small headaches for people who download the app.For one, Google Maps is only optimized for iPhones, so iPad owners will have to contend with the non-universal interface for a while. And those using any other app on an iOS device that uses map data, like the awesomely awesome Wundermap or one of the MapMyRide apps, will still have to work with Apple’s native mapping data.I don’t drive with my iPad, for instance, so who cares if the interface is small for now? (Google is reportedly working on an iPad edition.)The impact of a function-rich Google Maps app on iOS is sure to be a poke in the eye for Apple, but more important, it will siphon some map-related ad revenue that Apple coveted. Once Google Maps gets ads back in the iOS version of its app, all that potential revenue will be navigating its way to Google’s bank account.Title image courtesy of Shutterstock. The meeting was held at Uttar Kanya in Siliguri which serves as Secretariat for north Bengal.“The State government officials walked out of the meeting after we rejected their offer of fixing the minimum daily wage for tea garden workers at ₹172.
